Challenge Event Details
CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME Firstly, congratulations on “throwing your hat in the ring”. The support for a regional event such as the Fittest in the CoalFields Challenge continues to astound us. There has been a tremendous willingness from the broader CrossFit community to help spread the word about this event (thank you folks) and an eagerness from many a CrossFitter to make a commitment to training, to travel and to put it on the line – it’s fantastic to see! This page has been created to paint a bit of a picture for what you can expect to see in the lead up to the competition, as well as what is going to happen on the day. INTRODUCTIONS KB CrossFit are the hosts of the 3rd Annual Fittest in the CoalFields Challenge. By nature, we’re a relaxed, but enthusiastic group of CrossFitters. While still only a part-time box, many of our members have only just started to taste CrossFit competition and have become hungry for more. With a shortage of available Central Queensland CrossFitrehearse these with the intention of making every rep an easy decision for the judge. As an athlete it will be your responsibility to ensure that you understand and meet the required standards of movement. The judges will be instructed to judge – not to coach. Their primary role is going to be to count your successful reps. The judge will be able to tell you how many reps you have completed – if you ask. But they will not be tailor their counting to suit each individual athlete, coach you on improving your movement efficiency or advise you on more effective strategies to take on the WOD. If your rep has clearly not met the standards, the judges will “no-rep” you. If you have a questionable rep, the judges are instructed to give you the benefit of the doubt for one rep (but will issue a warning). Do it a second time and the judge will be dishing out a “no-rep”. If you’re unsure as to why you received a “no-rep”, simply ask. In doing so, please remember the culture of the event –community and fun. We want you to put up your absolute best effort possible – but there will be no room for hostilities towards our volunteer officials. Remember, these people are taking on what is often a thankless, yet absolutely essential task – so let’s ensure we treat them with the respect they deserve. SCORING Across the day, after each event, the athlete will receive points according to their placing within their respective division. At the conclusion of four events, the top ten place-getters (the athletes with the five lowest collective scores) in each division will go on to the final workout. SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY Registration and Briefing All athletes must get registered prior to the day at . Registered athletes will be required to check-in between 8.15am and 8:45am on site at the AFL Clubhouse off McCool st, Moranbah. Check-in will only take a few minutes to complete, but if possible, please try and come a little earlier than 8:40am to avoid the last minute rush. Followingthis process will be the Athlete briefing at 9.15am. WOD times The first WOD will be kicking off at 9:45am. In an attempt to give as many people the opportunity to compete as possible, we do have a full schedule planned and will be starting on time and running across the day to a very strict schedule. Over the day, we’re expecting to get through all heats at pre-determined time allocations. What this means is that once you’ve finished your WOD, you will have time for recovery and rest before having to front up for your next event. Throughout the day, athletes will need to be ready and make their way to the designated marshalling area approximately 10 minutes before your heat is due to start (eg. if you’re in heat 2, make your way to the marshalling area when heat one is starting). All going according to plan, the WOD finals will be kicking off and running between 4.00pm – 4:30pm. ACCOMMODATION Moranbah has a variety of accommodation options on offer. For further accommodationfestivities, simply email me at info@kbcrossfit.com.au so that we can ave a rough idea of the numbers attending this event. CHILDREN AT THE CHALLENGE Children are more than welcome to attend the Fittest in the CoalFields Challenge. There will be plenty for them to do and see on the day with outdoor shaded areas to keep them out of the sun. So bring the family and friends along to show them what it is to be involved in an awesome CrossFit community and give your all. VENDORS AND VOLUNTEERS The 3rd Annual Fittest in the Coalfields Challenge will see stalls set-up for sponsors such as Jus-Jog-In (Lorna Jane) & Mass Nutrition (supplements). We will also have massage therapists and physiotherapists available for athletes to utilise throughout the day to tend to their aches & pains. With this there will be a carnival type atmosphere with a DJ pumping out the tunes as the competition heats up as well. An event like this cannot go smoothly without the help of volunteers, so if you aren’tgoing to compete on the day yet want to be a part of it please email us at info@kbcrossfit.com.au and we will allocate you to a vital role, making this the best day possible.
