Cris Cyborg to Fight Marloes Coenen on Strikeforce Miami This Saturday

Sun, Sea and Sand.. Everybody’s dream right? Its great to have those things around for during rest periods and down time but I love having them around for training camps. Being able to go out and do the morning 5-10KM run in high humidity and heat has a great impact on endurance and building your body’s resistance to heat. Its also great to be able to do some with high speed swims in the ocean out to a buoy and back and then weve got the sand being able to do sprints in the sand will really help to build the explosive power in the legs that every Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ and Boxing fighter needs to be at their most effective in a fight.

I find the morning runs in Thailand to be very relaxing. It gives me a nice chance to get my thoughts together for the day, Visualize upcoming fights and plans and also gives me the chance to take in some of the local scenery. It always a great feeling as the local villagers wave at you while you are passing through and to see the Monks in the morning as they pass by making their rounds.

After the morning run we head back to the gym and do a morning session of light technique drills. We are trying here to perfect the movements and make them reflexive so they happen naturally in a fight rather than having to think about them. After that we move on to strength and conditioning. The program varies day to day and focuses on different body parts and on different methodologies like cardio training, stability, agility and maximal strength.

Following the morning run I like to drink a protein shake to help give my body some nutrients to repair itself and then I like to go out and get a Thai massage to help loosen up and relax. Thai massage is so inexpensive out here and aids in recovery so much that it really is a great advantage to training MMA in Thailand. Feeling relaxed now its time to head back to my room for a quick nap, lunch then the afternoon run before heading back to the gym for some sport specific training.

Afternoon training varies between Boxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu / and Wrestling or all combined. The afternoon session tends to be higher intensity with sparring and full speed drills. Classes last about 2- 3 hours and then again I finish off grab something to eat and then head to a Yoga session to try to calm my mind, relax and work on my flexibility before I go to bed.

When im training for any competition be it MMA, Muay Thai Grappling etc.. My days are very similar and all through camp it tends to be Wake up at 5am and be in bed by 9pm. I have to make sure I eat every two to three hours and I allow myself one full rest day per week.

Anyway, That’s a quick summary of daily life of Muay Thai and MMA training at an .
