An international team of HART researchers is undertaking a sociological-phenomenological study of sporting embodiment and the senses, in a range of physical cultures, including distance running, boxing, mixed martial arts, and traditionalist Chinese martial arts. The team comprises , HART Director, Lincoln, , Newcastle University, The Open University, and Dr George Jennings, Universidad YMCA, Mexico. We are particularly interested in investigating participants’ ‘intense embodiment’ experiences of these physical-cultural lifeworlds. An article from the project examines the lived senses of heat in women’s running and women’s boxing. A pre-publication copy of the Body & Society article can be found , together with a abstract.
