Rodriguez, the Miami Marlins were “outraged” when the Boston Red Sox fielded a team mostly comprised of minor leaguers for a spring training game. The Red Sox’s lineup only featured two players with any sort of big league experience — Jackie Bradley Jr. (who has had 95 at-bats) and Ryan Lavarnway (who has made 269 plate appearances in the bigs). The rest? Minor leaguers, up-and-comers, and perhaps never-will-bes. The Marlins, who had charged “premium” ticket prices for the spring training game against the defending World Series champions, weren’t pleased. The Marlins had no comment, but a source said team executives were “outraged” and planned to contact the league office. A league spokesperson said the matter would be reviewed.  has specific guidelines about Grapefruit and Cactus League lineups. Its 2014 regulations state teams should field:“A minimum of four players who are regulars on the previous year’s major league team or who were platooned on the previous year’s major league team on a regular basis, or who have a reasonable chance to be regulars on the major league club’s squad during the upcoming season. Each of those regulars, excluding pitchers, must play a minimum of three complete innings.” Sour grapes, or do the Marlins have a legitimate gripe? (I’d insert a joke here about the Marlins not being much more than a minor league team, but that’d be mean.) (Thanks to for sharing.) , , , , , , shares share tweet sms send email
