Muay Thai Scarecrow – MMA Training in Schaumburg, Aurora, Naperville, Chicago
This is a fantastic neck- strengthening exercise that also incorporates the Muay Thai clinch. It is best to do this drill with someone who is of equal or greater body weight and size. The object is to keep your neck straight with good posture as your partner climbs all the way around your body without touching the floor. Once in a stable position, the partner doing the climbing clinches his hands around the head of the person doing the scarecrow. He then begins to slowly pull towards himself as the standing partner resists. This drill, while it may seem simple, is anything but easy. The scarecrow exercise builds functional strength in both partners. Even though he is just standing there, the first athlete has to support the full body weight of his training partner. It also develops multi-dimensional neck strength teaching a fighter how to maintain his neck posture when an opponent is trying to get an advantage.
