At the end of 2013, Sports, Life, Work decided that for 2014 we would offer 6 Sponsored places. A post was put up on social media and was shared by a lot of people and we had roughly 25 applications which we had to whittle down to just 6!
This was a massive challenge as the quality of applications for sponsorship was amazing, it shows how much potential Scotland has for its sporting future.
Here are the lucky athletes who stood out to us with their applications and gained a place on our sponsored team:
Doni Miller “I’m a professional mixed martial arts fighter known as “the dragon” MMA is a full contact contest in a cage/ring and you can win or lose by Knockout/referee stoppage, submission or a decision.
I have been fighting since I was 17 and just recently turned 25 so I have been around for a while. I have a 6-0 semi professional record winning a British title in the process. I am 5-2 as a professional having just fought for one of the biggest promotions in the world called Cage Warriors”
Megan Arbuckle
“I am a competitive level 5 cheerleader for Gold Star Cheerleaders and have been since 2004. While competing at the world cheerleading and dance championships in April, Florida I tore my ACL and am currently out of training post surgery but am hoping to return to training and competing before this current season is over.”
Ross McKenna “I’m a former American Football player for the one and only Glasgow Tigers and now proud to say I’m part of the coaching staff for the Glasgow University Tigers American Football Club.
Well… since retiring from play I have become a competitive strongman and had my first local competition in March and since that I’ve been mad keen on it! This year I’ll be competing in Scotland’s Strongest Man Under 90kg.”

“ I’m a professional trials rider/BMXer. I’m currently out with a broken collarbone so this sponsorship has come at an ideal time and should get me on my bike quicker. I used to compete and my best result was 3rd overall at the World Champs but these days I do shows and make videos. My goal is to get as fit and strong as possible this year and do the scary stuff I’ve wanted to do since I started. I’m from Yorkshire but moved in with friends in Glasgow. I recently had a video released to coincide with the release of my signature trials bike, Arcade.”

That’s the boring bit over with! Very happy to be part of this sponsored team and excited to be sharing ideas with you guys!
Thank you once again to Sports Life Work and will probably be thanking them over the next year for keeping me fit and getting me to the games”
Ishbel Taromsari
“I’m a track cycling sprinter. Very quiet and timid, NOT!!!! My aim is to make the Scotland Commonwealth sprint team for the 2014 games. A big thank you of course to Sports, Life, Work! for letting me be part of your sponsored team!”
